Every day, our hair takes a real beating. We subject it to all kinds of styling products and tools, and then there is pollution in the air, which wreaks havoc on our hair. When our hair becomes damaged, we use more and more products to try and make it healthy and shiny again. Unfortunately, this often backfires, because we are just putting more chemicals on our hair, causing even more damage. Instead of trying different products and not getting good results, it is best to stick with a few products that you know are going to work. Here are some of our favorites:
1. Milder Hair Color
Problem: Coloring your hair causes damage: ammonia and peroxide strip your hair of moisture. But there are products that are less damaging than others.
Solution: An Excellent product to try is L’Oreal Professionnel’s INOA, which doesn’t use ammonia or peroxide.
2. Hair Repair System
Problem: Damage from from hair products and the environment.
Solution: Pro Naturals is a line of hair care products that use natural ingredients, and are designed to repair damage to hair and bring hair back to its natural state. It is not a quick, temporary fix for dry hair. ProNaturals will protect the cuticle layer (outer protective layer of the hair), giving it more elasticity and making it stronger.
3. Superabsorbent Towel
Problem: When you rub the towel all over your hair, this can lead to breakage and make it dry and frizzy looking.
Solution: Use a microfiber hair towel that is designed to soak up a lot of water. Try using the Sephora Aquis Microfiber Hair Turban.
4. Heat-Protecting Spray
Problem: Sometimes flatiron can heat up to 410 degrees. Heat-protecting spray will help protect your hair from the heat of styling tools.
Solution: Try spritzing some Tresseme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray before styling. You can use it on damp or dry hair.
5. Deep Conditioner
Problem: Hair isn’t soft and shiny looking.
Solution: Deep condition your hair with a product such as Shu Uemura Art of Hair Moisture Velvet Nourishing Treatment for Dry Hair. It only takes a few seconds to use. A deep conditioner should be used once a week for the best results.
6. Restorative Shampoo
Problem: Traditional shampoos strip natural oils from the hair.
Solution: Try to become shampoo free person. If you think it’s impossible a thing for you to do, look for products that have the words, “anti-breakage”, “strengthening”, “restorative”, or “renewal”. These are products that have ingredients that help to seal split ends and make hair thicker. A good one to try is L’Oreal Paris EverStrong Reconstruct Shampoo.
7. Ionic Hair Dryer
Problem: It is a well known fact that hair dryers damage hair: you’re getting split ends and hair with no life.
Solution: Instead of a traditional hair dryer, it is better to use one that emits charged particles instead of heat. Check out the T3 Featherweight Professional Hair Dryer.
8. Silicone-Emitting Flatiron
Problem: A regular flat iron makes hair look shiny, but leaves it dried out.
Solution: One that emits silicone, such as the Remington Style Therapy Frizz Therapy Flatiron is good for your hair, and it helps to keep hair from getting frizzy.
9. At-Home Gloss
Problem: Dull and unhealthy hair.
Solution: John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze Clear Shine will make dull, unhealthy hair look shiny in less than half an hour. It makes hair look healthy for a week or longer.
10. Good, Gentle Brush
Problem: Your hair nearly as unique as your fingerprints, so it is extremely important to use the brush that doesn’t damage your hair. Metal can heat up when using styling tools and burn the hair at the cuticle.
Solution: Use a brush that has a rubber paddle and synthetic bristles, preferably with balls at the ends. Try the Goody Start Style Finish Frizz-Free Finish Brush.
